Garmin Vivoactive GPS Smart Watch

As it is usual with my articles, I’d like to give you a fast video of a Hands-on review I found on YouTube. It is only a two-minute video but you can watch it so you can see what kind of watch we are talking about.

As you can see, it has plenty features, not a so great or different design, but at first impression, it looks really nice.

Usually, the fitness trackers are not good enough for many sports, but the Garmin Vivoactive GPS Smart Watch offers more than a basic level if you want to take it seriously.

The most obvious and first feature to analyze is the GPS. The GPS fits better for runners and cyclists. A stand-alone device for GPS can be very expensive, and maybe it will be useful for just one sport.

With Garmin GPS systems Vivoactive Smartwatch you can have the GPS and program different sports so you can keep track of your records and maps. The first version promised full notifications on the wrist and many sports tracking activities.

At the moment of this review was made, it has a reasonable price.

What I liked most of this device is that it features a variety of sports tracking features, and with the addition of the recently view GPS, of course is a very good combination. Everything can be tracked, not just the running and cycling but also swimming or walking.

This is like a small version of a huge range of dedicated sports gadgets but in one small wearable.

Of course, it also acts a smart watch and a fitness tracker.

You can keep track of your day to day activity and it will track your sleep pattern too.

As any other gadgets we reviewed here, it can also wake you up and it sends messages if you’ve been sitting around for too long.

Another really good feature that now is like a “must” when you talk about smartwatches is the notifications feature. This device can pair with a smartwach to deliver host notifications to the wrist.

Being concious that this is not an Android device, you can seamless interconnect with any Android phone, and you can have texts, calls, and some other web-based or smartphone-based applications like WhatsApp, Tweeter notitifications and tweets, or Uber alerts.

Notification disappear after 10 seconds but you can access on the notifications menu, if you swip right.

It is also waterproof so you can swim with it and it supports to swim down to 50 meters.

Claimed features

According to the Amazon website, you can also find the next features:

  • 24/7 HEART RATE MONITORING – Elevate wrist heart technology gives you heart rate all day and night -no additional strap required – Activity Tracking Accuracy
  • LONG BATTERY LIFE – Up to 8 days in watch/activity tracking mode
  • INTENSITY MINUTES – Monitor your progress against aerobic activity goals recommended by health organizations like the American Heart Association
  • SMART NOTIFICATIONS – Set any notification from your mobile device to come over – When paired with a compatible smartphone
  • GPS smartwatch with a sunlight-readable, high-resolution color touchscreen

Then, if you compare all the features it has to the price, it seems it is fair and one of the best ones to buy in the market.

Some people may believe that the design is not quite good, that it is pretty much like other devices and it does not offer anything new.

The first generation usually came with a small resolution display, but the new ones can be found on high-resolution displays.

Yes, this is a major feature that deserves to be mentioned. According to the Garmin’s website and ads, it can stand around 8 days without the need to recharge the battery. However, this is in the watch/activity tracking mode.

If you unblock the screen on every notification you will receive, obviously, you will need to recharge it more often, but of course, it is a very good battery life compared to other smartwatches. Pretty similar to the Fitbit, which is not a Smartwatch with GPS.

The Garmin Vivoactive GPS Smart Watch syncs with the Garmin application, which also has incredible features like tracking your activity, daily steps and some other no basic features.

This application is a fitness platform which connects to an online portal. You can also earn badges and follow all your runs on a map.

The synchronization just takes seconds and the Bluetooth is quite stable.

Final Thoughs

Definitely, the Garmin Smart Watch is a high-performance smartwatch. The GPS option included as all the sports posibility is a plus. Combined those two and you will be more than happy to track all your activities in one device.

If you are a sports big fan and you are looking for a device, the $249.99 that this devices costs (as Aug 10th, 2016) is definitely a good option to consider.

It doesn’t need to be an Android phone to be compatible with most of the Smartphones. Please consider check the Amazon website and look and read for the questions and answer and also, other people’s reviews.

Don’t give it too much though, I know that you can find anything you need in this gadget.
